Playing Homemade Guitar Flying V

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Playing my newly made flying v. i pretty much played that riff on the spot… its a riff i like playing but it changes everytime so there is no timing and it isn’t a song as far as i know… i love playing it so far, the action is really low, which i did myself which i must have gotten lucky because it doesn’t buzz at all. i’m tuned down a full step, so i have 10 guage strings which i’m still getting used to… it has a dimarzio pickup which is not really intended for metal or distortion but it isn’t bad, i’m planning on replacing it with some good Seymour Duncan Distortions or the Invader… please comment, let me konw what you think!

Epiphone Flying V- Risson ETA 100 Amplifier-HighOrder pickup

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Just messing around with an Epi Flying V, loaded with fantastic HighOrder pickups. The amp is a 77 as a best guess, Risson ETA 100. A rare amp built by Bob Rissi. Slash and Lita Ford were noteable early users. Very much a juiced Marshall vibe, with a lot more tonal range. I love having the rare and obscure, so this amp will never leave the stable. I have a Weber Mass engaged, and am using a 2/12 cab loaded with Eminence GB12 speakers.

Guitar Playing Sweep Picking Exercise

Friday, January 30th, 2009

This is the first video with my Carvin V3, but don’t critique the sound quality, because the camera’s mic is ty. I do however like to think that its godly tone is somewhat showcased. I’ve been playing for three-ish years. It’s just a guitar solo (really more of a sweep picking exercise, hence the title). I was motivated to learn sweep picking by studying the work or artists such as Frank Gambale, Rusty Cooley, and Jason Becker.

Many have asked exactly how I went about learning sweep picking. There’s really no one way to learn. All I can say is practice it a lot. Nothing but sweep picking, sweep picking, sweep picking. Get a metronome, as doing it in time is very important and difficult, especially if you try to do it AFTER you’ve learned to sweep at a good speed. Everybody learns at a different pace, and sweep picking may be easier or harder for you than other players, that’s just the way it is. Personally, sweep picking seems to almost “come naturally” to me at this point. I find it easier than alternate picking.

Thanks for watching!
