I have Musicman Axis Supersport guitar, i also want a Gibson SG std. Is it good idea to trade my musicman?
I have Musicman Axis Supersport guitar (humbucker not p90s) for nearly 6 months and i feel it's a good guitar but lacked the ooomph and looks for rockin, and worse thing is i also want a Gibson SG std for a long time. Is it good idea to trade my Musicman Axis for a Gibson SG Standard?
I play Mostly Blues (SRV, Hendrix), Classic Rock (purple, Zeppelin).
You know, this is hard to answer.
I had a Gibson full size arched top with pick-up that my Dad bought for me in a pawn shop in Buffalo NY when I was 14 years old. I used it for rhythm while I was playing country. I had it for about 7 or 8 years.
But then, I decided I wanted to play rock, and I needed something with more punch, easier playability, tone and something cool. So, I traded the Gibson for a Fender Jaguar and Fender Twin Reverb. They were great!
About 5 years after that, I had a lull and sold the Jag. and the Twin. Big mistake.
Now, if I had the Gibson today, it's value would be in the neighborhood of 3,000.00 to 5,000.00 dollars. The Jag. about 2,500.00 and the Twin maybe 1,200.00.
I swore I'd never sell another piece of musical equipment, unless it was really low end. NOT EVER!
I've got a Martin HD-28, a law suit Takamine F-49 mahogany,
a Telecaster Thinline 1974, (4,500.00 value), an old Peavey tube 4 -10's, 4 banjo's, (one valued at 5000.00), 2 resonator guitars, (one is a hand made Denove), a mandolin, 25 violins, and a banjo uke, not to mention any brass or keyboards.
I'm not familiar with the guitar you have or the one you're thinking of trading for, but be sure of what you are doing. If your guitar is low end, probably go for it. If not, think it over and be sure you're making the right choice.
By all means, have fun with it.
Good luck
