What are some tips for learning guitar?

Well I’m learning how to play guitar and it’s a bit difficult. I’ll admit, sometimes I completely forget to practice but when I do, I have problems playing chords. Either they don’t come out properly or my fingering is wrong. And tips/hints/tricks? Thanks in advance!

By the way I’m on a Gibson acoustic guitar.

I suggest find the tabs for a song that you are really passionate about, and want ot learn how to play it, and just practice it over and over. I have been playing guitar for a little over a year, and i sucked when i started, but i can play a bunch of my favorite songs now. If i may make a few suggestions, look up some songs by Green Day, and Paramore. They are both Punk Bands, and their music is amazing. Most of the songs r simple, and uses many power chords. If u learn to play these sngs, more songs that have more complex chords may seem a bit easier. If you have any questions feel free to message me. Hope this helps! :-)

always bend your wrist and your fingers. Don’t use plastic strings, use steel. It will take 1 month to build callus in your fingertips which makes it easier to hold the strings, assuming you practice all the time. The more the better.

    learn basic chords first, obviously.

Well first, ask someone to show you how to properly tune it, because you might be playing it right, but it sounds wrong because it’s not tuned. Then make sure that you are pressing down in the center of the string hard. and if you aren’t using a pick, get one because they make life so much easier. and don’t strum too hard because that can damage the strings and make it sound weird. If all else fails, see a professional for help. hope this helped :)

I met someone who said they’d be someone different if ten years ago they would’ve stopped playing an instrument. One day you start making music and what a way to vent, after twenty years, imagine sounding pro!

In order to solve your chords and finger placement problem, you should first solve the problem as to why you forget to practice. You shouldn’t forget to practice, you should look forward to it and want to practice. If you don’t, maybe guitar is wrong for you.

    Remember:
-Practice atleast 45 minutes a day.
-Also keep a good balance schedule, its cool to play a lot,but becoming obsessed isn’t good ..take breaks after an hour if your starting out ..it can stress you out if you play too long .
-Lessons will help you more than anything on the internet can do..you can ask them questions personally also unlike Youtube..and you will learn much faster .
-Warm up before you play, its key to warm up because you will prevent injury, get the blood flowing, and you will play alot better .
-Learn scales..its essential to guitar playing
There’s lots to learn about guitar, these are just a few
