I am really close to my decision. these are the guitars that i prefer. i decided to choose between these two guitars because My friend said that Gibson SG Supreme is better for Led Zeppelin, Green Day stuff than Gibson Les Paul Custom. this will be my last question if answered nicely and full of details.

well both are great choices. i think i would probably go with the sg simply because it would be a little lighter for playing for a long period of time. either one would have excellant sound for what you want but as you know you can always get a pedal to change for a wider sound. all in all i think i would definately go with the sg just for the fact i think it will meet your needs a little better than the les paul. the les paul is so bulky that you may get tired sooner if you play for long periods of time especially if you are only going to have one guitar. gibson also has the sg supreme under the epiphone label of theirs that might save you some money. you might also check it out. hope this helps a little. have fun with your new toy and keep rockin’!

I am really close to my decision. these are the guitars that i prefer. i decided to choose between these two guitars I added ES-335 because My friend said that Gibson ES 335 is more suitable for Led Zeppelin, Green Day stuff that Gibson Les Paul Custom. this will be my last question if answered nicely and full of details.

They are both suitable, but a Les Paul is more appropriate for the style of music you like.

However, I would get the ES, as it is more versatile and will allow you to branch out to different musical styles as you grow up and gain wider interests.

I know most people use 10’s on gibsons, but I’m a jazz player, so I want to start using heavier strings to play more accurately. Because the heel joint is so low on an SG, I don’t know if this heavy of strings will put too much torque on the neck/body joint. The neck/body joint is like at the 19th fret.

Absolutely, just get it set-up for 12’s.

Every time you use different gauge strings, or a different tuning, you’re changing the tension on the neck. That’s why if you pay someone for a guitar set-up, they will ask you what gauge strings you use, and what tuning you use.
.

The only other problem could possibly be grooves in the nut and bridge where the string lies. If they’re cut for 9’s, and you’re trying to use 14’s, the string might be too big for the groove and slip out. On the flip side, if you file these out to fit, and then you use 9’s, the strings are going move around in these grooves, which isn’t good either.

So ask the guy who sets it up if he thinks there will be any problems using .12’s. And try to find someone that’s recommended by other players. Setting up a guitar is an art form, and if you take it to someone who’s not good at it, the guitar will not play as good as possibly could with a great set up. More importantly, if it’s set up by someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, you can seriously damage the guitar beyond repair.
