How can I tell the model of my Gibson Explorer?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

I bought a Gibson Explorer but it turns out it’s not the guitar for me and I’m wanting to sell it – the only problem is, I’m not sure what model it is – I have a feeling it’s a 76′ reissue but is there any way to know for sure so I can list it correctly?

Thanks :)

Hello there,

On their web site, Gibson has a page about how to tell the date of a Gibson by the serial number.

What is the cheapest Gibson Explorer and where can you find it?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

I looked prices of the Gibson Explorer guitar on Guitar Center.com and it was around $1,000, is there another place to buy it cheaper? If so, where?

That is likely the best price you will find on a new one. You can try the used route or You could purchase one from Gibson’s Epiphone line. From Gibson’s epiphone line you will pay between $400 and $500. It is basically the same instrument. I think the only real difference is that this line is made overseas in Gibson factories where labour is much cheaper. They are by no means a poor quality instrument. The guitar player in my band has 3 epiphones and loves them. Our other guitar player has an actual Gibson Les Paul Goldtop. If you play one and then the other, there is no real noticeable difference.

They are available here:

Does the Epiphone 1958 Explorer have a thinner or thicker neck than the Gibson Explorer?

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

I’d like the guitar with the thinner neck, since I have smaller hands. I dislike the look of the ESP or Jackson versions, even though they have thinner necks.

thinner neck

What are the minimum dimensions that guitar case needs to fit a Gibson Flying V?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

What are the minimum dimensions that guitar case needs to fit a Gibson Flying V?
I bought a faded V and I only got a gig bag. It’s a pretty good gig bag, but a gig bag nonetheless.

If you haven’t ever tried its really hard to find a well-priced hardshell case that fits alternative guitar shapes (BC Rich, V’s, Explorers, and double-necks).

dude you got a flying V!!! so sick but sorry i dont know:(

Whats is a better guitar than a Gibson Les Paul?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I play mostly metal and im trying to stay away from the overrated Gibson les paul brand of guitars. I like the Gibson explorer, but thats beyond my budget. I just want something unique that is better than the infamous al mighty les paul

Gibson’s are expensive but not over-rated. You pay for a lot of aesthetics on a Les Paul that you do not on something like a Strat. You can’t really say something is "better" than a Les Paul, that is subjective. Without knowing your budget it is hard to make a recommendation. I do have Schecter that plays as well or better than my Les Paul Gold Top or my Les Paul Jr. Once you get into the $1000 or so Schecter guitars you have a serious axe. If you play a lot of metal one of their models with the active EMG’s would be awesome. The new Stiletto Classic would be a killer guitar.

which do u prefer between these gibson guitar?

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Gibson SG Standard
Gibson Les Paul Studio
Gibson Firebird V
Gibson Flying V
Gibson Explorer

Hello there,

Which you prefer would vary depending on what style music you play. Also, the appearance may have some influence on your decision. Of those 5 guitar models, 4 are quite limited. Only the Les Paul is a truly versatile instrument. If you intend to play strictly metal, you could get by with any of them. Also, if you really like the looks of one of those, you can compromise your tone and play the model that appeals to you. For just how well they play and sound in a broad variety of musc, I cannot see how you could beat the Les Paul.

gibson explorer vs gibson firebird v?

Friday, January 1st, 2010

im the lead guitarist for my alternative, pop-punk powerpop band. and which guitar is more suitable. i tried these guitars out but couldnt find the difference. i play kinds of music like All American Rejects
please be helpful

Both are nice guitars. Their is hardly any diference. It is mainly the shape. Both have humbuckers and both are solid bodies.

The neck of the Firebird V, unlike most other Gibsons, is actually relatively thin. This makes for easy fret access for tough chords and reaches. The only minor drawback to the Firebird V’s playability is the fact that its body shape towards the back can get in the way of the players’ arm when playing on the lower frets.
As for the sound, the mini-humbuckers are designed to play blues rhythm and leads with light distortion. Nothing special.

As great as the body of the Gibson Explorer looks, I honestly found it a pain to play. It would take quite a bit of dedication to get used to this and play around it, though many have done it successfully and some don’t even find it to be an issue.
As for the sound, the humbuckers on this guitar rocks. I mean they sound way better than the firebird . No question. It can scream on the high end and deliver thick chords with a punch on the low end. I think this is what you are looking for.

Enjoy

I’ve got a high-end SG Reissue. It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever owned. I like the more balanced feel of the SG over the Explorer.
Either way, if you get a Gibson, you should be in good shape.

Gibson Guitars are good guitars right? (you get what you pay for?)?

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

i know this idiot at my school and he plays guitar (so do i). i got in an argument today with him about how good my guitar is. he thinks its good, but he thinks you pay way too much for it (hes just jealous cause he’s poor). my guitar is a gibson explorer with gold hardware and a natural finish. i paid $950 something and he thinks i got ripped off. he thinks gibsons are good but he thinks they should cost less because they aren’t really worth $1000. i explained to him that gibsons are classics and they are handmade but he still thinks gibson overcharges. help me win a bet here. am i a right or is he?

Who Can Play Better, You Sound Like You Feel You Bought A Sound Making You Superior… Not So, Music Comes From Within . I Have Guitars That Run The Gamut $50.00 – $3500.00 Each Is Special YET I Make Them Talk !
Stupid Argument Especially " He’s Poor " Did You Buy Your Axe Or Did Mommy & Daddy…
