What kind of guitar stand should I buy?

Monday, August 30th, 2010

I have two guitars, a Gibson Explorer and a Jackson RR. i need a guitar stand that can fit those shapes. any sites and prices would be appreciated. thanks

Check out http://www.takeastandinc.com. On those stands, the guitar hangs so you should have no problem. You’re right though, any other guitar stand really doesn’t work too well.

Take a Stand wood guitar stands can be ordered in a variety of different woods, finishes, and designs. Check them out.

Lefty gibson explorer look-a-likes?

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Im a lefty so it is near impossible to get my dream guitar – a gibson explorer – since they only made a few back in the 80’s. Does anyone know of a guitar that looks like the gibson explorer that comes in a left handed version? I dont want a cheesy knockoff though, i want a good guitar (preferably $600 – $800) with a design similar to the explorer. thnx

Take a look at Gaskell Guitars. They are a left hand only manufacturer and make several explorer types. http://www.gaskellguitars.com/models.html

Agile Guitars make one. Don’t be fooled by the cheap price, people rave about Agile. http://www.rondomusic.com/ghostiiiwhiteleft.html

If you’re in the UK there’s the Chapman ghostfret. It’s custom made for you though and seriously high end so over your budget I guess. http://www.chapmanguitars.co.uk/guitars/ghost-fret/ Doesn’t hurt to look! :)

Just a few off the top of my head, i’m sure there’s more. Good luck!

Gibson vs. Epiphone (1958 Explorer) Guitar?

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

I want to buy an Explorer. Which is better: Gibson or Epiphone
I play mostly Metal music (Metallica, Slayer, etc) but i also like to play ballads and other stuff
And i dont have the money for a gibson. Should i save up? im only 14

In modern years (the last 30 really) Epiphone has become known for their cheap, copied versions of superior Gibson product. It is a sister company under the Gibson umbrella which actually does produce some of it’s on exclusive models that are quite nice but as far as the Gibson copies, (ie; Explorer, SG, Les Paul etc.) they are just cheap foreign versions made of poor sounding ply woods and inferior construction and electronics.
You’re much better off saving for a Gibson or other high grade US or Japanese made guitar. It will prove to be much more enjoyable, not to mention, much less frustrating to learn on.

Which is better a gibson les paul standard or an explorer?

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

I have $2000 and i want to buy a professional guitar. I play metal, classic rock and funk. My main influences are pink floyd, metallica, red hot chili peppers and steve vai. If you have any other professional guitar suggestions please tell me!

It’s not possible to say which guitar is better.
Buying a guitar is a personal thing. It has to feel right for the person who will play it.It has to play easy for the person who will play it.It has to have the sound that the player looks for in a guitar.

You can talk about differences in pick-ups, bridges, electronics and so on.That’s fine to do.But I think a player has to test guitars personally before buying one.

What’s the best electric and "normal" guitar to buy for a beginner?

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Would a Gibson Explorer be good for an electric guitar or does it not matter? I don’t want to get a cheap guitar. I would like one with quality and last long :)

I agree completely with the Fender Squire Strat

I just thought you might want a second opinion.

How can I get a gibson guitar for Dirt cheap?

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

I really got to upgrade my guitar rig and want to start with a gibson V or Explorer. I don’t wanna get a piece of @$#% used and abused guitar. What is a good place to go (don’t answer eBay because I’ve tried it)

You’re just not going to find a cheap Gibson, sorry. There are plenty great guitars that are cheaper than Gibson though. They are very expensive. You could get a Gibson Faded SG new for $699. I bought a used one for $400 a few months ago. You can get the Faded Flying V for $949. American guitars don’t really depreciate much, if any, so buying used will only save you so much.

Epiphone explorer vs. Gibson flying v guitar?

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

I am a developing guitarist and for my 16th birthday I’m thinking of getting a new electric guitar.my parents give me money every year but the problem is i cant decide between a Epiphone explorer or a Gibson flying v. I’m having a summer job as well so i know i can pay for a flying v by myself . i cant decide(PERSONALLY, I’M THINKING OF JUST BUYING BOTH) What do you guys think?
1.I have a summer job to pay for one or both
2.when i said "when my parents give me money every year", i meant for my birthday

I have an Epiphone Explorer, and two Gibson Explorers. Though I don’t have a Gibson ‘V, I do have an Epiphone V.

So . . .

Epiphone makes a great guitar but – despite what anyone says – you do get more from getting a real Gibson. Gibson uses a better finish process on their instraments that lets the wood breath and age better, and the Gibson’s pickups are much hotter.

Though I love the Explorer’s shape, my Epi ‘V is more comfortable for me to play and I always seem to find myself reaching for it over its brothers.

So, between your two choices I’d personaly take . . . wait for it . . . . wait for it . . . . Neither.

The current Gibson V’s are not as cool as the older ones that had the strings through the body (my opinion) and, unless you plan on doing a lot of custom work to the Epi, you may not be happy with its sound. As the other guy said, go play a lot of guitars. Jacksons, Ibanez, the whole freak’n lot. Find one you dig and get it.

Which Guitar is The Best?

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

I’m looking to buy my third guitar. Recently, I have mostly looked at gibsons, as well as ibanezs, prs, and scheter. im wondering, out of my guitar wishlist is the best for me, statistic wise, er i mean like hypothetically. (ie. if i am a rock guitarist, say the best rock guitar out of them). I mostly play rock music, but I like to play other things as well. Some bands i like to cover are ACDC, Guns n Roses, and Black Stone Cherry. Right now I am leaning to the gibson les paul custom because it is very versatile because it has a great clean tone, but has a good distortion when you need it. Anyway, pick the guitar that is versatile!

P.S. Price is not an issue. I’m saving, so if its worth it, I can wait.

Impressive wish list! You can’t go wrong with a Les Paul. They are great guitars (a bit heavy though). But they sound awesome. I love Ibanez guitars and I own 2 of the S series instruments. I would recommend them to anyone interested in a top notch guitar. I also own a very old custom ESP Les Paul reproduction that is an absolutely perfect version of the classic ‘58 Paul. ESP makes great guitars. I have owned a Gibson explorer, It was nice but not fantastic. PRS makes excellent guitars but I would get the Les Paul over the PRS Tremonti. Schecter started out making guitar parts and while they do make nice guitars I feel that they are still a second class instrument when compared to a Gibson or a top of the line PRS or Ibanez.
Bottom line: I would go with one of the Les Pauls or the Ibanez, but that is a personel taste thing.
Good luck.

What guitar would be best for me?

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

i am looking to play songs from bands such as iron maiden, metallica, and some new bands who play slightly more punk riffs, such as rise against and rage against the machiine. the guitars ive been looking at are squier telecaster, lado earth, ibanez destoryer or Gibson explorer or SG. which guitar should i get ? i was thinking mainly the SG or telecaster but would rather an experts opinion!
thanks for all comments

its not really what kind of guitar you have, its more what kind of pickups you have in your guitar. So if i was you, i would either go with the Gibson Explorer or the SG, because they usually have humbuckers in them, which is a pickup that creats a heavy, crunchy kind of noise. Telicasters tend to be a little twangier but they can still be rock machines if you know how to use them. Me personally, i have a hamer with demarizio super destortion pickups in it and it rocks harder then my old mans SG :D

BC rich mockingbird guitar or gibson explorer guitar?

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

which one should i get? i like both of them, but i dont no which one would be best for me. i like to rip out and shred also i play heavy riffs with distortion.

In all honesty they’re pretty similar for the sound you want. They both have decent, easy necks and have good humbuckers. As the guy above said, cheap model Mockingbirds are crap where as you’re fairly sure to get a good Explorer no matter what. Personally I’m a BC Rich fan and would love a Mockingbird so if it was me I’d have that, just as long as it was an NJ model or something. Bronze series BC Rich’s are horrid :)
