Is this a real gibson les paul custom or just a rip off?

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-musical-instruments-guitars-Gibson-Les-Paul-Custom-W0QQAdIdZ222194861 look through the pics

Hard to tell from the pictures, but the serial number checks out. That is a 1983 serial number. Pretty good price if it is what it says and it plays ok

Will a vintage, say early 70’s Gibson Les Paul Custom have any reliability problems compared to a new one?

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

I could buy a Gibson Les Paul Custom from the early 70’s,or I could get a new one.I was wondering if there was anyone out there who had experience with vintage guitars and their reliability(neck problems and the such). The guitar has to be tough enough to withstand everyday use and road use. Thanks

Les Pauls are renown for their durability. If it has been kept in good shape there should be no problems with playability. A early 70s Les Paul would be a great instrument and could be valuable too. If it is in good shape I would prefer the old one over the new one

In order to be "custom" does it have to be built to order or just one off/limited production?

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

or hand made

I always thought custom meant that the item has to be made to the individual customer’s exact specs.

But there are a lot of things that say custom that are just hand built or not massed produced like gibson custom guitars.

You are right in your definition of "custom". The use of the word to describe a mass or even limited production item is purely a marketing ploy. Custom does mean made to a single customer’s specs.

A lot of guitars, but only one is worthy enough for me. But which one?

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Ok, recently, I have expanded my guitar research to other brands other than gibson. So far I have expanded to esp, scheter, ibanez, and prs, as well as staying with gibson. :P . Anyways, here is the list of guitars that I think would be great for me to have, but your opinions will help me decide on which one save up for and eventually get.

The guitar the the yahoo answer comunity will help me pick will be my third guitar. My very first was a squire strat, and my current guitar is my Washburn Renegade.
Also, I play all kinds of music, from Santana, to Eric Clapton, to Joe Satriani. My amp is pretty crappy, but the guitar is first priority in front of amp in my opinion.
In the body, it also ses something like, help me pick the guitar so I can save up for it or something. Save up. It doesnt matter wether its too expensive or not. If I like it, and it has good reputation, then ill get it no matter the cost.

First, i have to ask, is this your first guitar?

And this all my opinion based on my own experience, guitars I’ve played or my friends have played, and much research.

Don’t bother getting a guitar that goes over 1500 bucks. There’s absolutely nothing better about the Les Paul’s you’ve mentioned than a standard Gibson LP Studio, and they’re a third of the price. The other guitar’s you’ve mentioned are signature guitars. The thing about signature guitar’s are, no matter how great they are, they are still overpriced. What kind of bands do you play? What’s your amp? I’m not trashing those guitars, but c’mon unless you’re some rich collector, you’ll never be able to afford those and/or you’ll regret it. There’s many guitars just as good in the 700-1500 price range.

Rock on.

How to make a Gibson Custom Guitar?

Monday, April 26th, 2010

How do I do this?

You could get a bunch of gibson parts either new or from used guitars and put them together, but custom means anything that is not mass-produced so even if you just painted a mass-produced gibson an odd colour, it could be considered custom.

Gibson SG Supreme vs Gibson Les Paul Custom?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

I am really close to my decision. these are the guitars that i prefer. i decided to choose between these two guitars because My friend said that Gibson SG Supreme is better for Led Zeppelin, Green Day stuff than Gibson Les Paul Custom. this will be my last question if answered nicely and full of details.

well both are great choices. i think i would probably go with the sg simply because it would be a little lighter for playing for a long period of time. either one would have excellant sound for what you want but as you know you can always get a pedal to change for a wider sound. all in all i think i would definately go with the sg just for the fact i think it will meet your needs a little better than the les paul. the les paul is so bulky that you may get tired sooner if you play for long periods of time especially if you are only going to have one guitar. gibson also has the sg supreme under the epiphone label of theirs that might save you some money. you might also check it out. hope this helps a little. have fun with your new toy and keep rockin’!

Gibson Les Paul Supreme vs Gibson Les Paul Custom?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Are they both custom made? i know supremes are chambered and Customs are just solid guitar
but which guitar is higher end?

I have never played either guitar but have you gone to the Gibson website?? They do have a consumer question dept on there…check that out! If you have a Music store where you live, ask them to find out for you!

Gibson ES 335 vs Gibson Les Paul Custom?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

I am really close to my decision. these are the guitars that i prefer. i decided to choose between these two guitars I added ES-335 because My friend said that Gibson ES 335 is more suitable for Led Zeppelin, Green Day stuff that Gibson Les Paul Custom. this will be my last question if answered nicely and full of details.

They are both suitable, but a Les Paul is more appropriate for the style of music you like.

However, I would get the ES, as it is more versatile and will allow you to branch out to different musical styles as you grow up and gain wider interests.

question about gibson guitars final?

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

im srry that i cannot keep my words. im told by my parents that i can get a les paul so what should i go for:
Gibson Les Paul Supreme
Gibson Custom SG Standard Reissue VOS
i play alternative/pop rock/ modern Punk rock/Led Zepplin stuff

my suggestion to you is to go somewhere like guitar center and look at them in person and see which one is going to be best suited for what you want to play. also go with the one that feels the best to you. i have two epiphone guitars (gibson) one is a 1958 corina flying v reissue sp ed, and a explorer that i bought early 80’s. i love both of them because they fit my hand great. just find your best fit and you’ll be great. lots of luck!
EDIT: by the way gibson had the les paul and the sg guitars also under their epiphone name. might save you some cash. thought you might want to know. basically the same lower cost. again best of luck and have fun. rock on
